Chromogenic UTI Agar is a specialized culture medium designed for the identification and confirmation of microorganisms responsible for urinary tract infections. Chromogenic UTI Agar is a significant tool in clinical microbiology. It allows rapid identification of uropathogens by distinct colony colour on the plate with minimal further biochemical testing. Coliforms are purple due to cleavage of several substrates, and Proteus, Morganella, and Providencia are brown as a result of tryptophan deaminase activity. These distinct visual distinctions enable Chromogenic UTI Agar to be very effective in routine diagnostic workflows.
