Product Code TR 044
Description
C.S.F. Diluting Fluid is used for RBC and WBC counting in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) analysis. It supports microscopic cell counting by preparing the specimen for examination with a hemocytometer.
The fluid acts on blood cells present in the CSF sample by causing red blood cell hemolysis, while staining the nuclei of white blood cells. This removes interference from red cells and makes the white blood cells easier to visualize and count under the microscope. Cell counts can provide useful information during CSF examination, particularly the WBC count, which can help assess the presence and nature of an infection.
The prepared specimen can be loaded into a hemocytometer for manual cell counting. The product has a purple-coloured appearance and is intended for laboratory use during CSF analysis.
Specimen handling and timing are important for reliable results. Delayed examination may affect cell counts because both WBCs and RBCs can begin to degrade within approximately one hour after collection. Care should also be taken while charging the hemocytometer to prevent bubbles from entering the counting chamber, as improper loading can lead to inaccurate results.
Proper laboratory procedures should be followed throughout specimen preparation and cell counting.
Principle
Simplifies cerebrospinal fluid cell counting by lysing red blood cells and staining white blood cell nuclei for easier visualization.
