BACILLUS CEREUS SELECTIVE AGAR BASE (MYP) (as per ISO 7932)

Product Code TM 1881

  • Description

Bacillus cereus Selective Agar Base is a medium for preparation of selective medium for the isolation and enumeration of Bacillus cereus from food, environmental and other samples. Since B. cereus is widely distributed in soil, dust, water, and raw materials, its detection is important in food microbiology and quality control. The medium is intended to facilitate recovery of the organism from mixed culture specimens by suppressing competing flora.
Differentiation of B. cereus on this medium is based on typical biochemical properties such as lecithinase activity, mannitol fermentation pattern and polymyxin tolerance. Among these, lecithinase production is a major identifying characteristic and helps distinguish B. cereus from a large number of other microorganisms. The formulation allows for consistent recovery and high contrast colony morphology for presumptive identification. Although the medium is suitable for counting, it is popular among microbiological laboratories for testing food, contamination monitoring, and routine examination of samples where Bacillus cereus may be present.
