NUTRIENT BROTH (W/ 1% PEPTONE) (as per BIS)

Nutrient Broth (W/1% Peptone) is an all-purpose medium widely used in diagnostic and quality control laboratories. It is used for the primary isolation and enumeration of diverse non-fastidious microorganisms from samples of clinical origin, animal sources, dairy, food, and water. According to standard methods for the examination of water and wastewater, it is recommended for water and milk product analyses.

The medium conforms to IS specification IS 5887 (Parts II, IV) 1976 by Indian standard, prepared as a balanced formulation containing a peptic digest of animal tissue and beef extract as sources of nitrogen, vitamins, amino acids, and carbon. Sodium chloride provides optimum concentration and maintains osmotic pressure.

This medium can be used as an enricher for sterility tests to grow inoculum for performing total counts, MPN tests, etc.

A general purpose culture medium.
