TUBERCULOSIS FIRST LINE KIT (7 Slants)

Product Code TMS 07

  • Description

Tuberculosis First Line Kit contains five antitubercular drug slants Isoniazid, Streptomycin, Ethambutol, Rifampicin, and Pyrazinamide, along with two controls for assessing the drug susceptibility pattern of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The kit is designed to help determine whether a tuberculosis strain is susceptible or resistant to commonly used first-line antitubercular drugs through in-vitro susceptibility testing.
Drug resistance in M. tuberculosis can involve one or more antitubercular agents and may develop due to inappropriate treatment regimens or incomplete therapy. Susceptibility testing provides laboratory information that can assist in evaluating the response pattern of the isolate and support appropriate therapeutic decisions.
The test can be performed using either a decontaminated and concentrated smear-positive sputum specimen or a pure culture of Mycobacteria isolated from a clinical specimen. Direct testing can provide susceptibility results earlier, generally within 3-4 weeks, while indirect testing may require approximately 5-7 weeks.
The five drug-containing slants allow individual assessment of resistance against the selected first-line agents. The kit should be handled using appropriate biosafety practices when working with Mycobacterium cultures and clinical specimens, with suitable procedures followed for inoculation, disinfection, and disposal.
