  • Description

    Soya Casein Digest Agar (Veg.) is a general-purpose culture medium designed for the growth and isolation of different types of microorganisms. This medium consists of digests from soybean meal and casein, which contribute nitrogen-containing substances, amino acids, peptides, vitamins, and other growth factors necessary for the microorganism’s growth. The sodium chloride present in this medium acts as an osmolality regulator, whereas the agar present helps to form a solidified surface for colony growth. In addition, the medium is free of animal sources, which makes it suitable for laboratories that require a vegetarian medium. This medium can be utilized in various microbiology laboratories, such as pharmaceutical, environmental, food, and clinical microbiology laboratories, for microbial growth and differentiation, microbial limit tests, sterility tests, and microbial culture maintenance.

  • Principle

    Soya Casein Digest Agar (Veg.) is an extremely nutritious growth medium for fastidious and non-fastidious microbes. Soybean and casein enzymatic digests provide sources of amino acids, peptides, and nitrogenous substances which help in the metabolic processes of the microbes and enhance cell growth. Sodium chloride is used to regulate the osmotic balance of the media, providing ideal physiological conditions for microbial growth. The presence of agar ensures that solidified cultures form and facilitates colony growth that can easily be observed and isolated. As the medium has a balanced nutrient profile and a neutral pH, it enables the growth of a wide variety of microorganisms and can be enriched with blood.
