Soyabean Casein Digest Agar Plate W/ 1% Glycerol and 4% Polysorbate 80 is a specialized culture medium developed for evaluating the effectiveness of sanitation procedures by recovering microorganisms from disinfected environmental surfaces. It can be used to detect microbial contamination on containers, processing equipment, work surfaces and water-miscible cosmetic products and can also be used to monitor the effectiveness of cleaning and disinfection practices.
The medium contains casein enzymic hydrolysate and papaic digest of soyabean meal as source of nutrients, amino acids and other nitrogenous substances necessary for growth of microbes. Sodium chloride maintains the osmotic balance and thus creates the right environment for growth. Polysorbate 80 works as a neutralizing agent against residual disinfectants which can interfere with recovery of microorganisms. It neutralizes phenolic disinfectant and hexachlorophene and promotes recuperation of the stressed or damaged cells, leading to higher numbers of viable cells and more accurate microbial enumeration.
Its selective formulation promotes survival of viable microorganisms post sanitization, rendering it a reliable medium for use in environmental monitoring and routine microbiological quality control. It contributes to consistent and reliable results in the evaluation of surface sanitation by reducing the inhibitory potential of disinfectant residues.
