SALINE PEPTONE WATER W/ 6% NaCl (ISO 21872-1-2017)

Product Code TM 2325

  • Description

Saline Peptone Water W/ 6% NaCl (ISO 21872-1:2017) is a selective enrichment medium used to facilitate the isolation and differentiation of various Vibrio species from samples of food, animal feedstuffs, and environments related to food production and food handling. The culture medium is adapted for identifying salt-tolerant Vibrio species and simultaneously restricting other species incapable of thriving in a medium with a high concentration of sodium chloride. The base provides all the nitrogenous sources required by microorganisms, such as amino acids, vitamins, and trace elements; sodium chloride serves to equilibrate osmotic conditions and acts as the selective agent of the medium since V. Alginolyticus thrives on 6% of sodium chloride.

This saline medium inhibits the growth of V. Cholerae that, as it is a non-halophilic bacterium, cannot tolerate concentrations of NaCl above 5-6%, whilst other species of Vibrio can grow.

This culture media, prepared according to the ISO 21872-1:2017 standard, is an ideal tool for molecular diagnostics food labs working for the qualitative and quantitative analysis of Vibrio and to study food (seafood), animal feed, and environmental samples.
