Sabouraud Dextrose Agar is Carliers modification of the formulation described by Sabouraud for the cultivation of fungi (yeasts, molds), and aciduric microorganisms. Sabouraud Dextrose Agar is recommended for microbiological examination of non-sterile products in accordance with the harmonized method of USP/EP/BP/JP. This medium is also employed in microbial limit tests in pharmaceutical testing, food, cosmetics, and clinical specimens.

Sabouraud Dextrose Agar is a selective medium used for the isolation and cultivation of fungi, such as yeasts and molds from both clinical as well as non clinical materials. It is especially useful to identify those fungi that are the causes of skin infection and in testing microbial contamination of food, cosmetics and environmental samples.
