RAPPAPORT VASSILIADIS SALMONELLA ENRICHMENT BROTH (as per USP/EP/JP/BP)

Rappaport Vassiliadis Salmonella Enrichment Broth is a selective enrichment broth that has been developed to allow for the efficient recovery of Salmonella species from pharmaceutical and clinical samples. Intended to meet the harmonised USP, EP and JP requirements, the medium enables the enhanced detection of Salmonella when present in low numbers or in the presence of other microorganisms. It can be used as a selective enrichment step before isolation as it improves the probability of identification.
The formulation combines soya peptone as a rich source of nitrogen and contains vitamins, amino acids and other essential nutrients for the growth of Salmonella. Magnesium chloride increases the osmotic pressure, while the naturally low pH of the medium creates conditions that favour the growth of Salmonella over many other bacteria. Malachite green also acts as a selective inhibitor and suppresses the growth of other competing organisms without affecting the target organism. Potassium dihydrogen phosphate maintains constant pH during incubation, sodium chloride provides osmotic balance for consistent microbial recovery.
