Description
TM Media’s Motility Indole Lysine Iron Agar is an all-in-one differential medium for the concurrent identification of motility indole production, lysine decarboxylation and production of H2S. This solid medium is based on a formulation widely used by clinical, pharmaceutical, food and research laboratory to differentiate and identify Enterobacteriaceae family members and Gram negative bacteria.
The medium is supplemented with peptones and yeast extract that supply the required growth nutrients. The carbohydrate source, in this formulation, is glucose and the substrate for lysine decarboxylase detection is lysine. Ferric ammonium citrate and sodium thiosulfate are for hydrogen sulfide detection and the tryptophan is for indole detection. In addition, the medium is semisolid to enable motility testing.
Lysine decarboxylase positive microorganisms lead to an alkaline reaction while H2S producing bacteria cause a black precipitate in the media. Indole test can be performed by adding Kovac’s reagent after incubation. Motile bacteria disperse from the stabline while non-motile bacteria stay at the stabline.
Motility Indole Lysine Iron Agar is manufactured under closely monitored conditions to guarantee quality, accuracy and reproducibility. The medium is made available in a ready prepared form, saving the laboratories from time-consuming preparation and ensuring that each test is conducted under same conditions.
Motility Indole Lysine Iron Agar is a invaluable resource in the microbiological laboratories for the biochemical characterization and identification of pathogenic microbes. This is a timely, diagnostic, simple, precise and reliable method.
