Luria Bertani Agar Plate is an enriched medium for growth and propagation of recombinant Escherichia coli strains used in molecular biology, genetic engineering and biotech research. Especially those derived from E.coli K12 have been frequently mutated genetically, and a nutritionally complete medium is necessary for them to grow well. The formulation offers consistent performance for routine culture maintenance, cloning experiments, plasmid propagation and other molecular applications.
The medium is intended for robust growth of bacteria and is composed of all necessary nutrients for recombinant and auxotrophic strains. Tryptone is a source of peptides and amino acids as a readily utilizable form of nitrogen. Yeast extract provides vitamins, growth factors and trace nutrients necessary for healthy cell development. Sodium chloride maintains the osmotic equilibrium and supplies sodium ions which are necessary for certain cellular transport processes, and this leads to the stable growth throughout the period of incubation.
